Digital health tools are enabling novel models of ophthalmic care and education, both domestically and internationally. Ophthalmic telemedicine, AI-enabled imaging, and remote monitoring can provide high-quality information to support the screening, diagnosis, and management of eye disease, as long as doctors are trained to use these tools appropriately. This session discusses global efforts to train ophthalmologists to deploy these technologies for enhanced patient care.

10:10 – 11:10 a.m. | Delivering Ophthalmic Expertise and Care in International Crisis: The Role of Technology and Innovation

This session will discuss how eye care is being delivered, at times, in crisis zones, both natural and manmade. Our four experts will describe the evolution of trauma/emergent eye care over time especially related to areas of active turmoil and danger. Case examples from Haiti, Ukraine, and South Sudan will highlight key lessons learned from preparing and successfully delivering care in these regions.
