Dr. David Hunter Cherwek has dedicated his career to the growing field of global ophthalmology and has always enjoyed connecting talented eye health professionals around the world.
Through the David Hunter Cherwek, MD Award for Global Ophthalmology, we will connect promising, ophthalmology residents and fellows outside of the United States with an opportunity to attend the Global Ophthalmology Summit to examine how they can best find mentorship, inspiration and opportunities to include global eye health into their career.

This award and accompanying travel grant will be presented to an outstanding ophthalmology resident or fellow that has shown extraordinary promise to contribute to global ophthalmology.
Eligibility
Ophthalmology residents and fellows outside of the United States with a sincere interest and passion for a career-long commitment to global ophthalmology are able to apply. To submit an application for the award you must submit an abstract for the Global Ophthalmology Summit. In your application you will be required to share (500 words) how you plan to contribute to improving global eye care. ​

Prize
The awardee will: ​

Receive travel reimbursement of up to US$5,000 to attend the summit in Chicago this August.

Be invited to speak and present the abstract.

Be recognized from the podium.
