Lab Opportunities

The Global Ophthalmology Summit Program Committee is pleased to offer a HelpMeSee simulation opportunity, along with Oertli and SEE International wet labs for attendees to participate in while in Portland.

 

Wet labs are open to Global Ophthalmology Summit attendees only. First come, first served until full. 

MEDICAL STUDENTS! Wet labs will be available onsite at the Summit. Please do not sign up below. Contact Lori McCoy with questions. 

MSICS Level 1 Training Wet Lab

August 9 and 10 | 10 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 1:30 p.m. or 3 p.m. 

SEE International is providing attendees with an opportunity to examine the recent developments in the clinical management of cataract extraction in humanitarian settings.  

 

Upon conclusion of the wet lab, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the latest developments in Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS)

  • Participate with a mentor in low-technology MSICS in humanitarian setting

  • Demonstrate skills needed for proficiency in this procedure

Note: This is a non-accredited wet lab for attendees.

 

MSICS, Complications Management, Suturing and Phacoemulsification: Instructor-Led Simulation-Based
Training Experience

August 9 and 10 | 8 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. 

 

HelpMeSee is providing attendees with an opportunity to experience the breakthrough in Simulation-based surgical training by receiving a hands-on demonstration of the HelpMeSee Eye Surgery Simulator. HelpMeSee is a non-profit dedicated to training tens of thousands of cataract specialists worldwide using instructor-led, virtual reality simulation-based training. 

 

Upon completion of the experience, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the concept of instructor-led, virtual reality simulation-based training.

  • Recognize the importance of lifelike, haptic feedback in simulation.

  • Clearly see how simulation-based training is appropriate for those in all levels of skill and experience.

 

Cataract and Anterior Vitrectomy Wet Lab

 

August 9 and 10 | 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Oertli Instrumente AG is providing attendees with an opportunity to experience the performance of the CataRhex3 surgical platform. The CR3 is the ideal phaco unit for teaching and implementing cataract eradication programs.

Upon completion of the wet lab, participants should be able to: 

  • Know the functions and features of the platform and when, how and why to use them

  • Have an understanding of the easyPhaco technology and its principles.

Registration will take place onsite at the Summit.
